Sheriff Barney eyes regulatory orgy

Barney Frank is licking his saliva-coated chops over the prospect of a regulatory bonanza next year.  Of course, Barney and his Democrat pals ran interference for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, arguing against tighter controls over the two mortgage agencies that were in the middle of the subprime meltdown and ensuing economic downturn.

Nonetheless, Barney is now promising New Deal-esque meddling in the economy.  In a statement that reveals he has zero understanding of how markets operate, the gay representative said, “This has not become an anti-capitalist society.  I think we can make the argument, as the New Deal did, that in fact we are being very pro-market.”

Um, the New Deal was not pro-market.  In fact, it was probably – up until this year – the greatest example of anti-marketism America had to offer.
