Atheists attack Xmas
Tonight Bill O’Reilly led with the story of an anti-religion sign posted in the state house in Washington next to a nativity scene and Christmas tree. The sign is a brief screed that declares there are no gods, no heaven or hell and that all religions enslave people’s minds. Apparently the sign’s display has the blessing of Washington’s governor.
O’Reilly correctly pointed out that the governor is bowing to political correctness run amok. The sign was installed by a so-called “freedom from religion” group. Apparently militant atheists deserve equal time during a Christian holiday.
Can you imagine the reaction if such a sign was erected near a mosque or Islamic display (assuming Islam uses displays)? Probably outrage on the level of violence – think Danish Mohammed cartoons.
O’Reilly tried to analogize by asking whether a sign should be posted on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day that attacks the civil rights leader’s religious perspective. A more apt analogy would be to ask whether neo-Nazi skinheads should be permitted to install signage or some other display on the MLK day.
