Remember the impeachment proceedings against Bill Clinton?  Or, more specifically, remember how they rended the country into an acrimonious partisan divide that persists to this very day?

The New York Times does.  As Barack Obama’s first scandal develops before he even takes office, the Times wants everyone to remember not how presidential scandals hurt the nation, but how those who take a stand against presidential wrongdoing hurt the nation.  If only those moralizing Republicans had not taken the high horse against Clinton, the past 10 years would have been bathed in the soft glow of national harmony.

So beware, America.  If you demand honesty and transparency from your incoming president, you just may doom the nation to another 10-year prison of partisan vitriol.  Please, let The Healer heal.
